Let’s talk about this!
Italy was ranked the world’s healthiest country in the Bloomberg Global Health Index. On March 20 the index was released grading 163 countries based on variables such as life expectancy, causes of death and health risks such as high blood pressure, malnutrition, the availability of clean water and tobacco use.
It looks like the little peninsula in the Mediterranean sea, in the shape of a high-heeled boot and known for it’s remarkable history, is the best nest to live a long and healthy life. Even though its economy is not the greatest, the unemployment rate is very high and it has a very high debt relative to the size of its economy, Italians can still live a long and healthy life.
Much credit has to go to the Mediterranean diet, rich in fresh seasonal fruits and vegetables, lean meat, fish, good cheese and extra virgin olive oil, and the Italian healthcare system, that surprisingly is a public healthcare system!
And here is the saying that I’d like to add to: Money can’t buy you happiness nor a long and healthy life.
Nowadays technology has made our life easier; we can do so many things that 20-30 years ago we couldn’t even imagine. Everything is faster and easier but hey, there’s always the other side of the coin. Being so busy and focused on trying to have a better career, a bigger house, a cooler car, the newest cellphone, and more, takes our attention away from what really counts – to live a healthy life. We all need some time to stop and enjoy the simple things of life!
